Autos: Jeep: 4WD: p/t or f/t?

Self-tutoring about autos: the tutor mentions a new finding.

My son drives a Jeep Liberty 2007. Thinking about the possibility of his driving in the snow, I researched the vehicle’s 4WD system.

My understanding is that full-time 4WD means it can be driven normally in that mode. If the road has mixed snow and bare patches, full-time 4WD is likely the setting to use.

Part-time 4WD is used when the road is covered in snow, or for off-road purposes. Part-time 4WD is not meant for highway speed; you’d be driving much slower: one source suggests less than 50km/h.

As I understand, shifting among 2WD, 4PartTime, and 4FullTime can be done while driving. I shift among them at a speed less than 50km/h.

I haven’t used 4Lo, but I understand it’s completely different. It seems you can only be moving at a crawl (3 to 5km/h), with the other shifter in neutral rather than drive, before engaging 4Lo. It’s not a setting I imagine using.
