Self-tutoring about modern English: the tutor mentions Mx.

I wrote “Ms.” in a note to someone last year, thinking I was being politically correct: I knew she was a “Miss.”

Apparently, I didn’t get it quite right: “Ms.,” she pointed out, is gender-specific. The proper title, she continued, is “Mx.” That way, you can’t go wrong: you’re not assuming attachment or gender.

Things can be tricky nowadays.
