Historically, it&#8217;s believed to be the ideal shape for a rectangle.  The ratio of length to width is<\/p>\n<p>(1+5^(1\/2)):2 or 1.618:1<\/p>\n<p>Below is a rectangle whose shape is indeed the golden ratio of length to width:<\/p>\n<div style=\"display:block;margin:auto;width:324px;height:200px;background-color:gold\"><\/div>\n<p style=\"white-space:pre-wrap\"><\/p>\n<p>Is the golden ratio the ideal shape for a rectangle?
