What minimum time will it last, with 95% confidence?<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\nSolution:<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s use \u03bc for mean, and \u03c3 for standard deviation.<\/p>\n<p>From the normal table, 95% of the distribution is less than \u03bc + 1.645\u03c3.\u00a0 By symmetry, 95% is more than \u03bc &#8211; 1.645\u03c3.\u00a0 Therefore, 95% of the time, the part will last more than<br \/>\n36 &#8211; 1.645&#215;10 months, or 19.55 months.<\/p>\n<p>Note this confidence interval makes no guess at the top of the life span.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll talk about other confidence intervals in future posts.<\/p>\n<p>HTH:)<\/p>\n<p>Source:<\/p>\n<p>Harnett, Donald L. and James L.
