{"id":14197,"date":"2016-02-03T20:39:24","date_gmt":"2016-02-03T20:39:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.oracletutoring.ca\/blog\/?p=14197"},"modified":"2016-02-03T20:39:24","modified_gmt":"2016-02-03T20:39:24","slug":"math-ounces-to-pounds-and-ounces","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.oracletutoring.ca\/blog\/math-ounces-to-pounds-and-ounces\/","title":{"rendered":"Math:  ounces to pounds and ounces"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>The tutor shows a conversion from early Math 10 Pre-Calc.<\/h1>\n<p>Herein, I use the abbreviations <strong>oz<\/strong> for ounce and <strong>lb<\/strong> for pound.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Example: Convert 1013 ounces to pounds and ounces.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Solution:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Realize that 16 oz=1 lb.<\/li>\n<li>Divide 1013 by 16 to get how many whole pounds you have.<\/li>\n<li>On a calculator, you&#8217;ll get the answer 63.3125. Keep the 63, but discard the decimal.<\/li>\n<li>The 63 means 63 pounds. You just need to find the number of ounces left over.<\/li>\n<li>Multiply 63 by 16; you&#8217;ll get 1008.<\/li>\n<li>The number of ounces left over is 1013-1008, or 5 ounces.<\/li>\n<li>Realize the meaning of the answer: 1013 oz is 63 lb, 5 oz.<\/li>\n<li>Check your answer: 63&#215;16+5=1013:)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>There are other ways to do this conversion, but this way seems the neatest that doesn&#8217;t use the fraction button.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll be discussing unit conversions in future posts:)<\/p>\n<p>Jack of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oracletutoring.ca\">Oracle Tutoring by Jack and Diane,<\/a> Campbell River, BC.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The tutor shows a conversion from early Math 10 Pre-Calc.
