However, I check the junk to decide if any emails within are important.  If one seems to be legitimate, I need to know what it says.  There starts the anxiety:  what if it&#8217;s actually infected, but just posing as a good-faith communication?<\/p>\n<p>I know that attachments, if opened, can potentially attack one&#8217;s computer.  But what about just an email itself, with no attachments?  Can it be dangerous to open?<\/p>\n<p>According to Leo of <a href=\"https:\/\/askleo.com\/can_i_really_catch_an_email_virus_just_by_looking\/\">askleo.com,<\/a> in the context of modern email programs, opening the attachment may not be safe, but opening just the email is.  He explains that there was a time when opening just an email was potentially hazardous, but with modern email programs, that problem has been fixed.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m really glad I read his article.
