If, in Windows command prompt, the copy command doesn’t seem to work for you, here might be why.<\/h1>\n

Lately, with one of my Windows 7 computers, I’ve not been able to paste a text file to a new location: when I try to do so, I get a dialogue box telling me “Windows Explorer has stopped working.” More on that in another post.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, I’ve reverted to the copy<\/span> command. However, the first few tries, I couldn’t get it to work. Apparently the reason was that I was using forward slashes:<\/p>\n

copy thisfile.txt ..\/thatdir   won’t work due to forward slash<\/span><\/p>\n

copy thisfile.txt ..\\thatdir   will work :)<\/span><\/p>\n

It’s ironic: you can even use forward slashes to navigate in the command prompt. However, with the copy<\/span> command, Windows apparently insists on backslashes.<\/p>\n
