The tutor shares an answer to not being able to copy and paste files in Windows Explorer.<\/h1>\n

To my knowledge, I can no longer (reliably) copy and paste files in Windows Explorer on either of my Windows 7 computers. Therefore, I can’t move files the way I’ve come to count on. What to do?<\/p>\n

I’ve looked into fixing the problem, but it looks potentially more destructive than constructive.<\/p>\n

For now, I’ve chosen a workaround: the old DOS copy<\/span> command. It can be used at the Command Prompt, available from the Windows Start menu. Assuming you’re in the directory of the file you want to copy, a typical command might look like so:<\/p>\n

copy this_file c:\\that_dir\\that_sub_dir<\/span><\/p>\n

Two hints:<\/p>\n

  1. Very often one wants to move a file from Desktop, My Documents, Downloads, or some common place like that. Those directories can perhaps be found under C:\\Users\\your_user_name.\n<\/li>\n
  2. The Command Prompt uses backslashes in directory names.\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
