Today, it&#8217;s been brought to my attention that many students might have trouble constructing the imparfait.  Here&#8217;s how:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\nIf the verb is <strong>not \u00eatre,<\/strong> the stem is the present <em>nous<\/em> form of the verb, without <em>ons<\/em>.  <strong>Example<\/strong>:  for the verb <em>travailler<\/em>, the imparfait stem is <em>travaill<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The endings, then, are as follows:<\/p>\n<table style=\"width:30%;display:block;margin:auto\">\n<tr>\n<td>pronoun<\/td>\n<td>ending<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>je<\/td>\n<td>-ais<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>tu<\/td>\n<td>-ais<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>elle\/il<\/td>\n<td>-ait<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>nous<\/td>\n<td>-ions<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>vous<\/td>\n<td>-iez<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>elles\/ils<\/td>\n<td>-aient<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<ul>\n<p style=\"white-space:pre-wrap\"><\/p>\n<li>\nFor the verb \u00eatre, the stem is <em>\u00e9t<\/em>, but the endings are as above.\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Jack of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oracletutoring.ca\">Oracle Tutoring by Jack and Diane,<\/a> Campbell River, BC.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The tutor shows the easy trick to form the imparfait.
