I believed he’d have an opinion about using it.<\/p>\n \n“What do you think about using fertilizer on a lawn?” I asked.<\/p>\n \n“I fertilize my lawn all the time.”<\/p> \n“What’s your response if people suggest that nitrogen fertilizer scares away earthworms?”<\/p>\n \n“I’d say bullsh-t,” he replied evenly. “My grandkids dig up worms from the lawn.” He paused. “It may be true some way,” he continued, “but it’s not true in my experience.”<\/p>\n \n“You’ve taught me something today,” I commented.<\/p>\n \nA man with such life experience can’t be ignored.
