I&#8217;m ashamed to say that&#8217;s about 11 percent of my weight, but anyway&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>\nI wondered, on my way one morning, what the extra weight would mean for my energy expenditure. I realized that the work done walking is likely just the lift at the ankles; moving forward doesn&#8217;t require much energy, since it&#8217;s not against gravity.<\/p>\n<p>\nTherefore, I decided, carrying 11 percent more weight should simply mean 11 percent more calorie expenditure.\n<\/p>\n<p>For fitness purposes, however, I think 11 percent more exertion can mean a dramatic difference.
