I went out one morning to find the gate, plus a section of fence, lying on the ground.

The weather wasn’t terrible, especially for January 6, but not optimal for repairing the fence. I dug out the bottom of the collapsed post then substituted a landscaping tie, a few of which I’d on hand. Next, with my younger son’s help, I reinforced the fallen section of fence, stood it up, and screwed it to the upright landscape tie, which had become the new corner post.

With effort, I got one of the hinges loose from the old post, but not the other: one of its screws was seized to the hinge plate, and too rounded to turn with a screw driver. With a saw, I cut its part of the post from the rest, keeping it aside until an opportune time would arrive to retrieve the hinge from it.

Yesterday (about five months since), was the day I finally retrieved the stuck hinge from the post and rehung the gate. Both my sons helped, but once again the younger was more involved. How it took place, I will follow up in tomorrow’s post (or, if not, then soon:).

Jack of Oracle Tutoring by Jack and Diane, Campbell River, BC.

Self-tutoring about yard chores: the tutor begins about repairing the fence and gate following a storm.
