I’m not French, but my wife and high-school-aged sons are Francophone. It was suggested by my older son many years ago that I shouldn’t bother trying to keep up, as my effort was “embarrassing.” He told me as much when he was in grade two.\n<\/p>\n
I continue to study French now and again. Being Canadian, I’ve lots of French media to explore. I’ve stumbled upon the words espèce and espèces:<\/p>\n
espèce<\/em>: species (sing.)<\/p>\n espèces<\/em>: cash<\/p>\n To my knowledge, the terminal -s in the second word shouldn’t change pronunciation.<\/p>\n I’ll be mentioning more about homonyms.
