I know there’s great stuff out there that I’m missing.

A few days back, Jen from New Zealand contacted me, indicating I might be interested in the article Spider Identification – Dangerous Spider vs Harmless Spider?

Since Jen’s email was so nice, I decided I’d take a look at the article, which I find to be great. It focuses on spiders in the US; millions of Americans would probably love to read it, since a person living in the country, or even the suburbs, likely encounters spiders.

I’m Canadian, of course, living on the West Coast, but I recognize some of the spiders in the article. It’s spider-friendly, pointing out the benefits of spiders, yet admitting that sometimes dangerous ones can be too close for comfort.

A couple of teasers from the article:

There are 4 “medically dangerous”, as the article describes them, spiders in the US, from a total species count of around 3,000.

One of the four originates from Africa.

The article has some great pictures to help someone ID a dangerous kind of spider. It also mentions some very common harmless ones.

Thanks, Jen, for bringing my attention to Spider Identification – Dangerous Spider Vs Harmless Spider? I encourage everyone who encounters spiders to read it.

For years, I’ve known the danger of poisonous spider bites is real: I wear gloves even to open the shed door:)

Source:

Spider Identification – Dangerous Spider vs Harmless Spider?

Jack of Oracle Tutoring by Jack and Diane, Campbell River, BC.

Self-tutoring about spider identification: the tutor mentions an article he was suggested.
