Around the end of May a different problem developed on the weed whipper, so a different fix was needed.<\/p>\n<p>Once again, the auto-feed was giving too much line. This time the restraint was broken, rather than weak: stiffening it would no longer work.<\/p>\n<p>From the spinner housing, I removed the spool altogether. Then I cut a piece of filament about 13&#8243;, which I strung through one of the holes in the spinner, fully around the central shaft (so the filament wouldn&#8217;t slip to one side), then out the hole on the opposite side. Next I replaced the cover.<\/p>\n<p>It works fine, but when the filament finally breaks off (around every hour or two of use) it needs to be replaced manually, which takes around 5 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>My son says the whipper&#8217;s never worked so well.
