\nI like democracy and I like respect for personal rights – freedom of speech, freedom of movement, freedom of assembly, etc. I like truth, as well. These may all be old-fashioned values; so be it.<\/p>\n
\nElection 2021 has stirred up these ideas in an interesting way, with the polling success of the People’s Party of Canada, which right now, seems to be at 6.7%.<\/p>\n
\nTo its supporters, the reason to support the PPC is clear: protection of individual rights and democracy. Many of its supporters are immigrants from places where those rights are blurry, and want to protect them here, in their new Canadian homeland.<\/p>\n
Perhaps homespun Canadians can learn from immigrants the importance of protecting liberties and restraining a government’s power.<\/p>\n
