\nThere are numerous oral medications for type II diabetes. As I understand, each works in one of five ways:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. It may cause the pancreas to produce more insulin.<\/li>\n
  2. It may make the cells more sensitive to insulin.<\/li>\n
  3. It may depress the amount of glucose released from the liver.<\/li>\n
  4. It may decrease glucose collection in the kidneys (so some glucose is released in the urine).<\/li>\n
  5. It may reduce the rate that the small intestine absorbs glucose.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
