Since it’s backwards compatible, we know to expect the same apps we’re used to, like Paint. Paint is great for quick photo resizing, cropping, etc; moreover, it’s snappy.

However, in one case I had to crop and resize a photo on a Ubuntu computer. I discovered KolourPaint, and installed it.

KolourPaint is a lot like Paint. Frankly, it’s fun to use. Only one thing: when you’ve asked the program to open a file, it will wait for you to choose one, even when you can’t see the file manager (or “portal”, I think it calls it). Therefore, the program can seem unresponsive, because the pane you can see (KolourPaint) is waiting for input from one that’s possibly minimized. Once you get the file chooser in view and select one, KolourPaint goes right back to work. That’s my experience, anyway.

I won’t hesitate to use KolourPaint again.

Jack of Oracle Tutoring by Jack and Diane, Campbell River, BC.

Self-tutoring about apps for Linux: the tutor mentions the fun one KolourPaint.
