That’s perhaps simplified, but how I see it.

I recently read an article that connects eating red meat to elevated risk of type II diabetes. I didn’t believe it — at first.

As I see it, the article doesn’t explain how eating red meat might cause type II diabetes. In fact, it offers opinions that agree but also that dissent. The connection between red meat and type II diabetes is a study in which people who ate more red meat showed a significantly greater likelihood of developing type II diabetes.

The article draws me into the comparison between logic and experience. Some people prefer the former; ancient cultures always preferred the latter.

The simple way to interpret the study: “It doesn’t matter why eating more red meat increases the risk of type II diabetes. Just accept the connection and act accordingly.”

The other way to interpret the study: “Since weight gain causes type II diabetes, if you can eat red meat without gaining weight, your risk of type II diabetes won’t increase.”

Even a pragmatist can arrive in conflict, facing such a situation:)

Source:

webmd.com

Jack of Oracle Tutoring by Jack and Diane, Campbell River, BC.

Self-tutoring about what people trust: the tutor faces a case of “What do you believe?” My research tells me type II diabetes develops from weight gain.
