I imagine someone owned it, but no vacant lots had &#8220;no trespassing&#8221; signs. Moreover, I never heard who owned this or that undeveloped area. If there wasn&#8217;t a building on it, you could go there &#8211; that&#8217;s how it was.<\/p>\n<p>\nMany such places were cleared, but not of shrubs. They were easy to walk through, since the land there was gentle. When applicable, they were used as shortcuts.<\/p>\n<p>\nTypically, those deserted places had holes in the ground. They were all the same, about seven feet by six feet and perhaps as deep as four feet.<\/p>\n<p>\nI never knew what made those holes; recently I realized they were made by an excavator. I don&#8217;t recall seeing one working around there, but I&#8217;m convinced that&#8217;s what must have made the holes.<\/p>\n<p>\nNow, I wonder a few things:\n<\/p>\n<ol>\n\n<li>Did the same entity own all those parcels of undeveloped land, and therefore dug such holes on all of them?<\/li>\n<li>What were they digging for?<\/li>\n<li>Were the digs successful?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>\nThose sites were peppered around; bringing the excavator to each one would have been a hassle.<\/p>\n<p>Curious, eh?<\/p>\nJack of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oracletutoring.ca\">Oracle Tutoring by Jack and Diane,<\/a> Campbell River, BC.\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Self-tutoring about people and events from the past: the tutor recalls&#8230;.
