\nI live in a place that’s fairly wet most of the year. In the summer we get lots of sun, but other times of year we may not get so much. It’s a good place for moss: there’s moss in my lawn.<\/p>\n
\nSome people think that presence of moss means the soil is acidic. However, moss can grow in alkaline soil as well, provided it’s damp and shady.<\/p>\n
\nLow pH (acidic soil) can help moss, because it makes it harder for grass to compete. Compacted soil (it’s hard to penetrate) also favours moss, as does poor soil. That’s because grass likes pH-balanced, loose, rich soil.<\/p>\n
\nTherefore, moss in the yard may suggest the soil is acidic, but not necessarily.<\/p>\n
