You can use it to exclude results that contain a certain word.<\/p>\n<p>\nI&#8217;ve noticed, though, that in response to a search that could lead to a lot of different results, Google often returns, at the very top, a paneled display, perhaps with a thumbnail in each, of the first few dozen, most likely results. When I type in the same search but with a minus sign to trim the results, I sometimes don&#8217;t get that initial paneled list at all.
