Birds are singing from trees, flying in front of you as you walk&#8230;they&#8217;re ubiquitous, and trying to attract attention. The bird watcher loves it.<\/p>\n<p>Today, walking home, I heard a distant, repeating sound. I would have ignored it, but it just kept happening. I was aware I was walking away from it, but I was already far away when I first heard it &#8211; likely about a quarter mile from its source. It was coming from high up, was my impression.<\/p>\n<p>\nI came to realize it must be an owl. This was broad daylight, but the sound was unmistakable, as was the pattern. I started listening to it intently as I walked. Although I was leaving it behind, the sound didn&#8217;t grow noticeably weaker.<\/p>\n<p>\nI think it was a barred owl.
