\nAfter the lilac bloomed, I pruned it – that was some weeks ago. Last evening I was processing the prunings. Among them was a central trunk I’d removed, which might have been two inches across at its base.<\/p>\n
\nI removed the branches so just the main trunk was left: I keep large sticks of hard wood to use as leverage tools, etc. I tested its bend strength, and was surprised. It seems to be the hardest wood I’ve ever held.<\/p>\n
\nI decided to look up lilac wood: sure enough, it’s very hard indeed.<\/p>\n
\nI put the lilac with other sticks I’ve kept, including a cherry, apple, and oak of similar size.<\/p>\n
