\nWhen I was a kid, the world was divided between evolutionists and creationists. The creationists believed in the Bible and didn’t believe in evolution.<\/p>\n
\nSuch a dichotomy might be passé, however: some Christian thinkers seem ready to include evolution as part of history, and even suggested by the Bible. The key line that suggests it: “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” (Gen. 2:7, KJV).<\/p>\n
\nOne interpretation of this is indeed evolution: Adam formed from the dust, by the hand of God, through the process of evolution. Perhaps the breath of life refers to spiritual awareness; thus “man became a living soul.” Eve, formed from Adam’s rib, shared spiritual awareness.<\/p>\n
\nEvolution seems of growing concern among Christians who are always looking for evidence of the hand of God. There is now such thing as a Christian evolutionist.<\/p>\n
\nFor about the last two centuries, many people have felt that science has been gradually (or sometimes quickly) demystifying nature; might virtually all physical matters be explained, in time?<\/p>\n
\nSimultaneously, perhaps, Christian thinkers have taken a parallel challenge: might the living world be understood from the Bible?<\/p>\n
