\nLately I’ve been researching WordPress and encountered the idea of a “default theme.” Apparently, WordPress might complain if an installation lacks one. Yet, what is it, and why does WordPress want it?<\/p>\n
\nI’ve read that, if something strange happens and WordPress decides it needs to reset, it will sometimes choose the default theme that’s installed in order to rebuild itself. In such a case you’d want to facilitate this, so it’s good to have a default theme installed even if it’s not active. That’s my understanding. Then again, WordPress also seems to suggest not to have inactive themes installed.<\/p>\n
\nA default theme is typically the one the installation comes with, often named with that year (“Twenty Twenty-Two”), for instance. If you’ve changed to another one, the default theme may still be installed, just inactive.<\/p>\n
