Both technologies offer the premise of a controlled environment within a larger computer system.<\/p>\n<p>\nAs I understand, a key difference between a container and a virtual machine is that the container still runs from the operating system of the host, while the virtual machine has its own operating system which can be different from the host&#8217;s.
