Self-tutoring about a Canadian tradition: the tutor mentions ideas about snow removal.<\/h2>\n

\nI’ve been removing a lot of snow lately. Where we live, we get winter weather some years. When I was a kid in the Maritimes, we always did there. Anyway, this year, and specifically this past week, I’ve been on snow removal duty each day, in some way or other. I’ve a few ideas I follow:<\/p>\n

  1. Wear sunglasses. It’s surprising how bright it can be when you’re surrounded by snow.<\/li>\n
  2. \nRemove the snow from the pavement as early as possible. Then, when the sun or the rain reaches the pavement, it will work on melting the remnants of snow and ice. This can be a powerful technique.<\/li>\n
  3. \nTry to avoid walking or driving on show you will remove. Once snow is compressed, it’s harder to clear, and harder to melt.<\/li>\n
  4. \nIn my experience, salt seems to work best when some pavement is showing through.<\/li>\n
  5. \nUsing an ice pick (aka ice scraper, ice chopper, etc.) can help. (See my post here<\/a>.) It can be hard work, though.<\/li>\n\n<\/ol>\n
