\nI first heard about Ozempic maybe spring 2023, on news out of Quebec. The idea was something like people wanted a medical plan to cover it as a weight loss drug. The idea of a weight loss drug seemed puzzling to me; moreover, as I understand, weight loss isn’t the specific application behind Ozempic. However, it seems some people have found they lose weight while on it, so perhaps it’s become a bit of a craze.<\/p>\n
\nWith such a name-brand drug, hugely popular, one might expect it not to be cheap. Apparently, it might cost two hundred to three hundred per month, in Canada. However, perhaps in 2026, that could change.<\/p>\n
\nIt seems that Ozempic’s patent in Canada may lapse in 2026, due to a missed maintenance fee of around two hundred fifty dollars back in 2020. Apparently there may have been strategy behind the missed payment; perhaps that will be a topic for a future post. Regardless, it seems that in Canada, after January 2026, generic forms of Ozempic could become available.<\/p>\n
Such is as I understand, anyway.<\/p>\n
