It seemed to mean that someone not directly involved in a situation stood to benefit if it succeeded. Not being sure of the actual idea behind it, I decided to look it up.<\/p>\n<p>\nWhat vested interest really means, it seems, is a right to some advantage. On the other hand, contingent interest means the party needs to accomplish some requirement to become entitled to the advantage.<\/p>\n<p>Such is my understanding.
