\nI’ve been using second-hand phones since January 2023. The one I used most recently was a Galaxy A5; I think it was from 2017. Eventually, it became very difficult to charge. Moreover, at about 25% charge, it would suddenly die down to 2%. No complaints; the phone was well-used by that point.<\/p>\n
\nLast week, I needed to access the phone, but found it wouldn’t charge. How could I charge it? I decided to watch a disassembly video to try to understand, and possibly fix, the problem.<\/p>\n
\nAfter watching said video, I realized that perhaps there was damage inside the phone so that the charging port was being pushed out of position by the charging cord. I decided to gently fasten a carpentry clamp above and below the port, hoping to stabilize the port’s connection to the motherboard so it wouldn’t be pushed out of position.<\/p>\n
\nThe clamp trick worked: I was able to charge the phone enough to last until the opportunity arrived to get a new phone, which I since have — that’s another story.<\/p>\n
