\nThe following is according to my understanding.<\/p>\n
\nI can’t recall when exactly I first took notice of Wab Kinew, but he’s impressed me ever since. He’s the Premier of Manitoba. I think the rest of Canada would benefit from his approach, as well.<\/p>\n
\nThe first thing one will notice, hearing Wab Kinew interviewed, is that he speaks Canadian. I recently showed an interview with Wab Kinew to one of my sons. “He’s cool,” my son observed. My son is Gen-Z, while I’m Gen-X: Wab Kinew speaks to both of us.<\/p>\n
\nWab Kinew believes in supervised consumption centres for drugs. He points out that such facilities can save lives, reasoning that the alternative is unsupervised consumption. Moreover, he observes that “We campaigned on this.” To me, he means that having been elected, he feels bound to deliver.<\/p>\n
\nKinew’s government is planning to build a new power generation station to see Manitoba through the winter heating season. The idea seems to be that it will be flexible with the fuel it uses. For the first few years, it may use natural gas, until local technologies catch up that can provide hydrogen or refined biogas. Kinew points out that the plant has the goal of freeing Manitoba from the need to import power from the US.<\/p>\n
\nKinew is interested to unlock the potential of Churchill, on the Hudson’s Bay, while acknowledging sensitivity will be required towards the environment there. What Canadian wouldn’t be excited about enhancing Manitoba’s seaport?<\/p>\n
\nMoreover, Kinew plans to balance Manitoba’s budget in 2027. It seems, since he’s been premier, his government has reduced the deficit by 42%. Things seem to be going in the right direction.<\/p>\n
\nWith Wab Kinew as premier, Manitoba may become a leader among Canadian provinces. It seems we’d be wise to hope so, eh?<\/p>\n
