\nA few years back someone mentioned they’d been down to Mexico for a procedure. They were happy with the experience and planned to return there should other procedures be needed. Later, hearing of the strain on the medical system in some parts of Canada, I was reminded of medical tourism to Mexico.<\/p>\n
\nApparently, many doctors in the US had some of their training in Mexico, the reverse being true as well. A doctor visit in Mexico might cost around 61USD; it’s rare to have to wait. In general, the cost of health care in Mexico is 50%, or even less, compared with the US. It seems to be an open, business-style system, where one can choose where to get treatment. Moreover, it seems even a visitor can choose to get medical coverage on the government system by paying a monthly premium.<\/p>\n
\nPerhaps just as interesting is the availability of prescription drugs in Mexico. For some medications for which one would need a prescription in the US, it seems a prescription may not be needed in Mexico. Moreover, many pharmacies have their own consulting physician who can write a prescription then and there for around 3USD. In general, prescription drugs are cheaper in Mexico compared to the US, by perhaps thirty to sixty percent.<\/p>\n
