\nLately, disassembling something, I encountered screws that to me were strange. Rather than a point, they have a specific formation below the threads. It’s somewhat like a drill bit.<\/p>\n
\nWell, it turns out these are self-drilling screws, meant for fastening things to metal. I guess one can drill said screws directly into metal without a pilot hole.<\/p>\n
\nThe item I found them from was one that had plastic fastened to metal, so this makes sense. One can imagine the time saved using a self-drilling screw as opposed to drilling through, then fastening with a nut and bolt.<\/p>\n
