From a simple point of view, it is calculated as follows:<\/p>\n<p>\neps=(net income &#8211; preferred dividends)\/(common shares outstanding)<\/p>\n\n<p>\nAs an example, McDonald&#8217;s has around 714 million shares outstanding.
