I became curious of its molecular structure.

Polypropylene’s basic unit, internally, is CH2CH(CH3), with a bond leading from each of the linear carbons to the next unit. Hence, it is sometimes described (C3H6)n, or might also be described as a polymer of C3H6.

Somewhat interestingly, polypropylene is not meant to contain any double bonds, despite its “-ene” ending.

Apparently, polypropylene is also known as PP in some contexts.

Source:

SpecialChem (April 30, 2026). “Polypropylene: How to select the right grade?” https://www.specialchem.com/plastics/guide/polypropylene-pp-plastic

Jack of Oracle Tutoring by Jack and Diane, Campbell River, BC.

Self-tutoring about chemistry and materials: the tutor looks into the structure of polypropylene.
