English: acclimate, acclimatize

Tutoring English, vocabulary is always interesting. The tutor mentions something he noticed.

The words acclimate and acclimatize mean the same – that is, to adjust to a new climate or reality.

I’ve heard acclimatize often, but acclimate, seldom.
