Canadian politics: Election 2021
Self-tutoring about Canadian politics: the tutor observes the 2021 federal election.
I heard that a lot of people voted early this election; I was among them. I wondered if the early voting suggested that people were more serious about this one. The answer is Canadian: maybe, maybe not.
It’s obvious from yesterday’s results that, en masse, Canadians don’t want change – or if they do, they don’t hope for it from changing the government.
While there are issues one could point to and proclaim, “This is serious; this needs to be confronted….” your ‘typical Canadian’ doesn’t seem alarmed. They came out to vote, a face in the crowd, then went back home to get on with life. What do they really fear? Right now, they fear change, apparently. One guesses we’ll get an update about what the ‘typical Canadian’ thinks in 2025 — perhaps not before.
