Computer security: malware and email
Self-tutoring about computer security: the tutor mentions some ideas about email security.
A question that might arise: “If a computer user has a virus but doesn’t know it, can that virus spread to their online account (online email, office documents, and such)?”
This post, the focus is email. I’ve looked into it, and although anything is possible, it seems that when a virus or worm spreads, it needs to be associated with some resource. Typically, with email, that’s an attachment, but can also be a link.
Therefore, it seems that, if an email doesn’t contain any links, and its attachments are safe, it will be safe. Gmail, for instance, automatically scans email attachments for viruses when sending or receiving.
I hope to follow up.
