Lifestyle: holidays: levels of commitment

Self-tutoring about holidays: the tutor wonders which is the favourite.

Decades ago, someone told me that Halloween is second in holiday spending, with Christmas obviously first. That may’ve been true then, but perhaps not anymore.

Out of curiosity, I checked the (apparent) popularities of the various holidays. I’m not surprised to find Christmas first, but Thanksgiving, at second, does interest me. When you think about it, people potentially do spend a lot on fixings for Thanksgiving dinner. They would eat anyway, though, and I don’t think turkey is the most expensive protein. (I hope to follow up about that.)

Valentine’s, at third, is intriguing: I’m impressed that people still put in the effort.

Halloween is in 7th place, according to cnbc.

It’s true that the cnbc article measures holiday spending, which isn’t the same as engagement. However, money seems to be how everything is measured nowadays in North America: it’s a starting point.

I see, hopefully, more than one follow-up from this topic.
