Pop culture: Terrifier 2
Self-tutoring about pop culture: the tutor mentions a curiosity.
I was in the room when Terrifier 2 was being watched on TV. My back was to it, but I could hear it well enough follow along, more or less. It was graphic and gross, but not really scary, I thought. I’ve heard movies that were much harder to listen to.
What amazes me is that, even in 2022, the same types of follies seem to ensnare the characters as back in the 70s. Terrifier 2 references one or more of those classic horror films with varying subtlety. It has a rampage-style plot, with gory attacks on unsuspecting characters, etc. From what I could tell, it’s the movie’s particular type of gory action that seems to sell it, plus the dubious personality of the clown (Art?).
Sell, it indeed does. Terrifier 2, from a budget of $250,000, had made more than three times that within a few days of its release. It would go on to make more than 30 times its budget within a month.
I guess some things never get old, eh?
