Biology: homologous vs analogous structures
Tutoring biology, terms related to evolution arise. The tutor mentions homologous and analogous.
Homologous structures are ones that might not have the same function now, but have developed from a common structure seen in the embryos. A human arm and a whale’s flipper are homologous.
Analogous structures are ones that perform the same function, but don’t develop from a corresponding structure. The human nose and insect antennae are examples of analogous structures.
