Botany: prickly-pear cactus

Self-tutoring about plants in BC: the tutor mentions the prickly-pear cactus.

I mention in my post from August 26 that I visited Kamloops in August. There, I saw some prickly-pear cacti in the field.

I first noticed, in a public garden, a prickly-pear growing outside. Said plant was established, so I wondered if perhaps it could tolerate the climate there.

I decided to explore the field, hoping to find prickly-pear in nature. It didn’t take long to find one, just off from a road.

The prickly-pear I saw in nature was what I’d describe as a ground-crawling specimen, rather than upright. Its leaves might have been 3cm across, with spines sticking out.
