Yard work: knots: categories

Self-tutoring about knots: the tutor mentions three top-level classifications.

The following is by my understanding.

If one studies knots, one will notice that the word “knot” isn’t always used to describe them. Rather, one sees words like “hitch” or “bend” as well as “knot.” What is the meaning of each of those terms?

In the context of knots, a hitch is used to fasten a rope around an object, with the goal of either fastening the other end to something else, or else using the object as support.

A bend is used to join two ropes at the ends. An examples is the zeppelin bend (see my post from July 30, 2024).

Outside of those specificities, a knot is used to produce a loop or else hold something together, such as a bundle of prunings from yard work.
