Ric Ocasek: Emotion in Motion

Self-tutoring about 80s reminiscences: the tutor recalls a song he heard one night long ago.

I moved a few times in the 80s, so often ended up with no friend but the radio. One night in ’86 or ’87, “Emotion in Motion” by Ric Ocasek from The Cars came on.

I immediately recognized Ric’s voice, but knew The Cars as a good-time band. “Emotion in Motion” sounded like The Cars’ voice and instruments, but not their style. Rather, it was more personal, more tender, than hits from The Cars I knew.

“Emotion in Motion”‘s sound is rich and complex, like you’d expect from The Cars. Ric’s voice is that of a dear friend’s.

I think “Emotion in Motion” is a unique 80s hit with a reassuring message.
