McAfee Anti-virus: difficult to remove?

Self-tutoring about home computer use: the tutor mentions McAfee Anti-virus software.

This computer is from 2017. It seems to need a total re-install of Windows 10 every 6 months, which is another story.

I reinstalled Windows 10 on this computer a couple nights back, and then the software trials it originally came with returned as well. One was a three-month trial to McAfee, which I decided to uninstall.

The first time I tried to uninstall it, the computer just ignored me. I thought little of it and went to bed. This afternoon I tried again.

The computer became very laggy and eventually totally unresponsive. The uninstall meter showed it half done, but seeming not to progress. I left the room.

When I checked back about 45 minutes later, McAfee was uninstalled. It may have taken, in total, over an hour, but did succeed.

So my experience is that uninstalling McAfee isn’t hard, but takes a long time. Have something else to do while you wait.

Since uninstalling McAfee, this computer is reasonably responsive. I’ll talk more about it in a future post:)
