Behaviour: a challenge of the prophet, part0
Self-tutoring about adaptation and learning in a social context: the tutor looks into tolerance of change.
In the New Testament, Jesus suggests that a prophet won’t be taken seriously in their hometown or among their relatives. I’ve wondered why, and come to believe it’s because those people knew the prophet before they were one.
My reckoning continues that people don’t tolerate change in each other very well. Therefore, if someone knew you when you followed Philosophy A, they won’t believe in you when you start promoting Philosophy B. People just don’t believe others really change, deep down, regardless of how they might seem different on the surface.
A prophet in their hometown, therefore, faces two challenges: getting people to believe in their message, and getting people to believe that they themselves have adopted it.
