Home computer use: resource utilization, part0
Self-tutoring about home computer use: the tutor mentions a few observations about downloading and installing GIMP.
Today, using a new laptop with 8 GB RAM and the Intel Core i5 1235u, I wanted to see how easily it would handle a demanding task. I was about to download, then install, GIMP, which has always taken a few minutes on any PC I’ve used. Therefore, I thought that task would be a good one to watch the computer handle.
I was using Edge, and had a few dozen tabs open: I always do. I opened the Task Manager, then clicked Performance. The RAM usage was hovering between 6.1 and 6.7 GB, as usual; the CPU, flitting between 3 and 18 percent. Then I started the download.
The CPU’s peak during the process was 28 percent; the RAM usage rose to around 7.3 GB. The download, then install, took a few minutes – totalling perhaps 2 to 5.
GIMP’s size on disk, presently, is about 1.2 GB.
