Home computer use: Google search tip: the minus sign, part 2

Self-tutoring about Google Search techniques: the tutor revisits the minus sign.

I mentioned back on April 28, 2019, about the minus sign operator in Google Search. You can use it to exclude results that contain a certain word.

I’ve noticed, though, that in response to a search that could lead to a lot of different results, Google often returns, at the very top, a paneled display, perhaps with a thumbnail in each, of the first few dozen, most likely results. When I type in the same search but with a minus sign to trim the results, I sometimes don’t get that initial paneled list at all. Yet, the paneled list can be very helpful, even if it doesn’t contain what I was thinking of.

Therefore, I do the search first without any minus sign, then refine it as needed in the next one.
