Cooking: French toast: do you toast the bread?

Self-tutoring about cooking: the tutor asks a question.

The other day I noticed someone toasting the bread before making French toast. I don’t know much, but I’m sure I’ve never seen that done.

My wife is a French toast diva, so I asked her. “You do not toast the bread when making French toast,” she confirmed. Yet, I looked it up: some people think you do, in order to prevent sogginess.
